![]() ![]() As the album opens, you almost think that you have put on a Miles Davis album by mistake. Additional personnel includes: Choir Of Chelmsford. ![]() Talk Talk includes: Mark Hollis (vocals, guitar, piano, organ) Tim Friese-Greene (guitar, piano, harmonium, organ) Robbie McIntosh (12-string guitar, dobro) Mark Feltham (harmonica) Henry Lowthar (trumpet) Paul Webb (electric bass) Lee Harris (drums) Martin Ditcham (percussion). The DVD features one extra track, the 'b' side 'John Cope'. I can totally see why someone would prefer them to the SACDs, or consider them so very close that there was no point in keeping both and would sell the SACDs to get back a lot of money that could be used to buy new music.Talk Talk's classic album re-issued on 180g heavyweight vinyl cut from the original analogue master, together with a DVD featuring the album delivered as a 96kHz/24 bit LPCM stereo mix. (I paid $95 for one and $105 for the other, at least one and maybe both from very nice members here.) Prize them though I do, I don't think they sound 100s of dollars better than other inexpensively available versions.įinally, the DVDs are not my #1 mastering of these albums, but agree they are excellent, just first-rate. If the SACD layer mastering had been released in CD format (even the CD layer of the SACDs uses a different mastering than the SACD layer does - the CD layer uses the standard Phill Brown 1997 mastering), I would have snapped up those hypothetical CDs and not laid down the big money for the SACDs.Įven as it was, I waited a loooong time until I could get the SACDs for not-insane money. IMHO the unique sound of the Talk Talk SACDs is because of their unique mastering. In other words, for me both SACDs have something extra over other pressings/versions, but if I had to get rid of one, it would be Colour of Spring because I feel I would lose less sonically by going to my 2nd-favorite pressing than I would with Spirit of Eden.Īs for high-res, I couldn't care less, and honestly the same goes for the SACD format. I don't know that Spirit of Eden sounds better than Colour of Spring to me, but I do find that the Spirit of Eden SACD is a bit more of an improvement over the other digital pressings than the Colour of Spring SACD is. However, in the case of the Talk Talk SACDs, I have found that for me they are the best-sounding. ![]() In general, I tend to get a little jaded about how often the recommended best-sounding disc happens to be the rarest and/or most expensive pressing. Click to expand.I have to agree - it's the mastering for me, not the format. ![]()
